Overall I feel out of touch; is my email being received? Is my phone not accepting incoming calls? Are my files actually uploading or are they just pretending to transfer? Is anything being accomplished?
I had lots to work on today. Paying work. Of course, none of it was complete and it took forever to get responses, and it’s all due on the same day. Turns out that at my current rate, the most I can work in a week is 4.5 hours without it subtracting from my unemployment. Luckily one of the clients has been delivering email files weeks in advance, so I’m able to space my work appropriately. Things get a bit hectic for email at the end of the month.
Evan was super helpful today. I didn’t want to move or do anything at all today, and he cooked breakfast and bought pizza for dinner, and made me smile a few times. Otherwise the rest of the day was a blur of slowly working on emails and trying to shuffle files around on the worst internet connection I’ve experienced in years.
Internet speeds got so slow today that I contacted tech support…they have no idea what’s wrong (though were convinced it was my computer’s fault and not the network). Turns out after going through their steps, it’s NOT my devices. Sadly this means I wasn’t able to edit a big batch of pictures I was planning on posting, so hopefully I’ll have that taken care of today or tomorrow (both the network speed and the photo editing).
I spent most of the day tersely backing up files for the upcoming computer reformat. Turns out even with a decent sized USB drive, plus all the empty space on my Google Drive and Amazon Cloud, I still don’t have quite enough space to back everything up. It was very slow and tedious trying to squeeze anything where it might possibly fit, hoping I’m grabbing everything and that I won’t lose anything, or that everything will open alright once the reformat is over. I didn’t realize the upload to my cloud space was going to take as long as it is, and I won’t be able to reformat today (or quite possibly tomorrow) because of how slow the upload is. The hope was to have everything fixed before tomorrow, so I could start working on emails using Photoshop, but now I have to resort to slightly more elaborate and messy methods to get these emails ready.
The rest of the day was spent cooking…I made a grilled shrimp and grapefruit salad for lunch and then mussels and French onion soup for dinner. Cutting all the onions for the soup was an experience unlike any other. If I ever cut off my finger, it’ll be from chopping onions with my eyes closed.
Today has largely been spent gobbling up my bandwidth…my mom’s website is a beast which I had to download, then upload elsewhere, while also uploading archives of all of my old work files to their server. I’ve been working with the slowest upload speeds imaginable. Eight hours in and I’m mostly done uploading my mom’s site, and about halfway through uploading the archives. Twitter finally got around to restoring my access.
Getting the mail today was exciting. I got an issue of Bon Appétit (Thanksgiving food, YAY!), issue 8 of Lucky Peach (which never arrive the first time around, they just resent it last week), my free Julep order (it pained me to have to cancel the subscription right away), as well as the debit card for my unemployment money. Sadly, I have to wait until the 27th before I can ask for money, but hopefully they’ll give it to me quickly.
I feel like I haven’t gotten much of anything done this week, partly due to fixing my webserver, trying to get my computer into a workable state, and getting a little overwhelmed at the sheer volume of things that need to get done. I’ve barely made a dent in anything else.
While prying open my Xbox controller to clean it, I apparently missed removing a screw and pried nearly all of my thumbnails off instead. It makes it difficult to use the touchscreen on my phone.
I can’t get my budget, bank account, and spending totals to match…I’m not sure where the discrepancy is.
Somewhere in my mind I keep thinking “aww, the weekend is almost over”. It’s kinda stupid, because it doesn’t really mean much to me anymore.
I didn’t do much of anything else today, other than a massive nap and more computer work.
Bright and early Evan and I went up to Fort Collins for a few things. We met his dad at Snooze for breakfast…they had loaded baked potato pancakes as their special, and it was the best thing I’ve eaten there in a long time (maybe even worth the hour wait). The Fort Collins Office Depot is closing, so I was able to get a USB drive for pretty cheap; hopefully everything will fit on it so I can reformat my computer.
I can’t seem to get past having an hour or two of being really sad every day and being unable to snap out of it.
- Took a driving lesson
- Watched loads of Star Trek
- Didn’t have to cook
- Took a nap
- Played a bunch of Diablo
I’ve already entered the special realm of not knowing what day of the week it is. I did a little bit of work and had a phone call (and potentially an interview next week). Most of my unemployment paperwork showed up, which was surprisingly fast. I also heard word about getting to do some absinthe presentations in the future, which would be awesome.
Evan went to Harbinger yesterday and brought home some coffee beans yesterday, and I love how big they are.
- Worked on moving webhosts
- Did yoga
- Exercised for 30 minutes
- More dishes
- Cleaned out the fridge
- Made homemade tonic
- Made dinner
My mom decided to wake me up this morning at an ungodly hour (10am) to ask why I hadn’t blogged yet. Yesterday kinda ran away from me, and after eating breakfast, doing yoga, and playing a little bit of video games, I spent the next 5 hours switching webhosts (which was enough to get everything set up and to move my site over successfully, along with attempting to move another site which was NOT successful), and then went over to my parents house “for cupcakes” for Ethan’s birthday, and ended up being there for 5 hours, stuck watching baseball (ugh). After that I got home right around the time Evan got home, I cooked us a little snack, and then it was bedtime.
